OK, let's assume there is some truth here. Going from 32 bit x86 to 64 bit AMD64 only grew the code by 5%. That's not bad, if you consider that the same transition to Intel64 grows code by 200%, or it's 3 times bigger. Most programmers can sneeze 5% code growth.

Then there's the more exciting part. The same recompile improved performance by 15%. Hmmm, not bad again. 15% isn't an act of God, but it sure could bring more programs being recompiled & sold as 64 bit up a fair bit. This might not be a bad carrot to hang out there for MS either. Catch the stallion & you've caught the herd.

For comparison, I believe that AMD64 recompiles will be about as common as intel's hyperthreading recompiles. Not alot of them early on, and they may both offer about the same amount of performance gain. So much for intel's Prescott getting ahead... :D
