Steady improvement noted this afternoon with all the major averages now holding on to a positive bias. A better than 2% turnaround off the low in the key semiconductor sector has helped to underpin the Nasdaq Composite. Hewlett-Packard (HWP +2.9%)-- increased speculation that the merger with Compaq (CPQ -1.7%) will not take place.
