You've never seen a roach? That is astonishing. You must not have lived in a big city. But even visiting people in NYC, even people in nice apartments with doormen who should stop them, I've seen roaches.

When we lived on the Lower East Side, we had so many roaches that when you'd turn on the bathroom light at night, you could see literally hundreds of them in the tub. When we'd spray, we'd sweep them up in appalling volume. And that building, which was a tenement, actually, always smelled of roach spray. Our apartment was a railroad flat on the second floor.

When i went down to see the site of 9/11, there were rats and roaches running around, visible.

Isn't my story about the roaches in our tub delightful?

Roaches are preternaturally disgusting creatures.
