Re: "...there is no debate about hamilton's stance on the protective tariff. he was the chief architect of our tariff policy."
Ok...I thought as much and didn't remember. It's of no matter here, indeed.
Re: "to suggest that using tariffs as an economic tool means we would be isolated from the world is disingenuous."
Not my intended suggestion at all. The point of the "island" theme was to point out an extreme involving the lack of any outside cooperation, and thus point to the natural need(we can't make a pencil without help! NO can do) FOR cooperation in the form of allowing foreign markets to thrive without the burden of tariffs imposed upon goods entering this already great and abundant country.
Thought you might like the above perspective, in the end.
Think about it as,
Freedom Works
P.S.---as for your final diatribe, I have to point out again that pencil again...it seems you'd be surprised indeed to realize all the countries necessary to produce everything you mention, today...and yesterday....and tomorrow.
Peace, love, and don't forget Freedom,
which works,

P.P.S.S. You really aren't currently prepared to have us trust Indians, Tiawanese, Mexicans, etc. are you? Fortunately, we already largely do, economically speaking.
