Hanover, Germany, March 12 (Bloomberg) -- Lucent Technologies Inc., the biggest U.S. maker of phone gear, said it will announce contracts at this week's Cebit technology tradeshow valued at ``close to'' 500 million euros.

The company will announce 10 contracts this week with companies such as France Telecom SA, Deutsche Telekom AG and Royal KPN NV's unit E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH, Lucent said in a statement distributed at a press conference. The contracts are for fiber- optic products, network switching and equipment for faster Internet access, the company said.

Lucent is aiming to win share from its competitors, especially small to mid-sized rivals, in the markets for fiber- optic, data and wireless networking gear. As Lucent adds new products, it expects large phone companies to opt to use fewer small suppliers.

Lucent shares have dropped 46 percent in the past 12 months.
