HP moving forward "with confidence and momentum"

If Walter Hewlett would just butt out
By Paul Hales, 12/03/2002 09:49:20 BST

HP HAS RELEASED A new note to shareholders urging them to send in their white slip approving the splicing together of the two ends of the pantomime horse.
The note, appearing on the votethehpway website, says: even "if you previously voted against the merger, either on Walter Hewlett's green card or on HP's white card, you have every right to change your vote and support the merger."

Then, of course, it gets down to its main task at hand - slagging off Walter Hewlett.

"If Walter Hewlett had taken the time to attend these Board meetings, (at which advisors urged in favour of the merger) he might have had a better understanding of why the merger with Compaq is the single best alternative for HP shareowners. If Walter Hewlett had taken the time to attend these Board meetings, maybe he would have joined with all the other HP directors in actively supporting the merger. If Walter Hewlett had taken the time to attend these Board meetings..." etc.

The document claims the merger shenanigans are all Walt's fault and that the HP board spent two and a half years in limbo before deciding on the best route forward. "Carly Fiorina was brought in by this Board to drive change and put HP back on a path to leadership," it says.

The vote is due on March 19th. µ
