BW)(CA-AMERICAN-TECHNOLOGY)(ATCO) American Technology Corp. Licenses PureBass to Amtec Manufacturing; Amtec to Produce PureBass Subwoofers for Major OEM Audio Companies

Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 2002--American Technology Corp. (ATC) (Nasdaq:ATCO) has entered into a royalty-bearing manufacturing licensing agreement with Amtec Manufacturing Inc.
Amtec, located near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a premier supplier of completed loudspeaker systems to well-known and widely distributed home theater, multimedia, and high fidelity brands. The agreement provides for royalties on sales of subwoofers and other speaker systems using ATC's patented PureBass technology. Amtec has been in business for 14 years and produces more than 200,000 powered subwoofers annually.
"We expect PureBass(R) technology to increase our market penetration as a major supplier of multimedia, home theatre, and other branded high fidelity loudspeaker systems," stated Martin Stec, CEO of Amtec. "PureBass provides our customers with an attractive and competitive subwoofer solution featuring smaller size, lower distortion, and wide bandwidth. We have already established manufacturing for PureBass subwoofers and expect quick and favorable responses from our customers."
"Amtec is known worldwide for its high quality and provides us exposure to a number of important audio brands. Their capabilities are well-respected within corporate audio circles and their facilities are impeccable from both economic and technical standpoints," stated Terry Conrad, president of American Technology. "We are also discussing the extension of the license to include our complementary NeoPlanar(R) thin film magnetic speaker technology."
PureBass technology is one of four major sound technologies owned and being licensed by American Technology. PureBass subwoofers employ unique cabinet construction, acoustic filters and vent configurations to achieve low distortion and accurate, seamless transition with upper range speakers. While conventional subwoofers crossover to upper range speakers at 80-110 Hz, the extended range PureBass subwoofer allows crossover at 220 Hz or higher dramatically improving matching with both traditional and new thin panel speaker systems. The cost-effective technology is covered by two U.S. patents, trade secrets and is protected under various foreign filings.
