Ericsson Press Releases

Deutsche Telekom selects Ericsson to provide components for its IP backbone

Date: Tuesday, March 12 2002

Deutsche Telekom has signed a frame agreement with Ericsson to
integrate IP routers based on the Juniper Networks M-series platform
for its global IP backbone.

Under the contract, Ericsson will deploy its industry leading AXI 580
and AXI 520 Internet Protocol (IP) Backbone routers (based on the
Juniper Networks M-Series IP routers). As part of Ericsson's Packet
Backbone Network solution, the routers will be used to extend
Deutsche Telekom's IP network. The new routers will help Deutsche
Telekom significantly increase the bandwidth of its backbone to
provide superior quality, low latency and high availability for the
services it delivers to its enterprise and consumer customers.

As the end-to-end solution provider, Ericsson will also provide
installation, implementation, system support, spare part management
and professional services. Implementation began in October 2001, as
part of a special ad-hoc contract.

"We are proud that Deutsche Telekom AG has chosen the Ericsson and
Juniper Networks solutions to enhance its global IP network", said
Karl Alsmar, President LM Ericsson International AB, Global Customer
Unit Deutsche Telekom. "This enhancement of their backbone with our
packet backbone portfolio will further improve their ability to
deliver first class services to their customers."

"By selecting the solution provided by Ericsson and Juniper Networks,
Deutsche Telekom gains a scalable, secure and reliable global IP
infrastructure, " said Carl Showalter, Vice President of Marketing,
Juniper Networks, Inc. "This solutions enables public and private IP
services for Deutsche Telekom's growing customer base."

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet
communications through its continuous technology leadership.
Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson
is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the
world.

VPN services to their customers over IP and ATM networks. The
solutions feature highly scalable IP and ATM platforms enabling rapid
delivery of new value-added services in an interoperable,
multiservice network environment: the AXD Multiservice Switches, AXI
540 series Edge Aggregation Routers, and AXI 580 and AXI 520 series
IP Backbone Routers (based on Juniper Networks M160, M40(TM),
M20(TM), M10(TM) and M5(TM) routers).
