Organized religion helps people in times of individual pain and suffering accompanying death, otherwise it serves little
Organized religion serves other values and does promote good values, but organized religion's greatest benefit is as I said, that is my view
I think we're making progress here rich and progress BTW is NOT getting you to become a member of organized religion. That could not be my goal because as I told you before, I do not ascribe to an organized religion myself. I do however see a great deal of good coming out of these organizations, despite whatever failings may be present amongst it's "leaders".
Folks like Falwell and Robertson become proxies for religion and lightning rods for critics. I believe this is a case of not seeing a forest for the trees, and in the above example, the trees seek that attention.
In fact, quietly throughout the world, everyday there are millions upon millions of kind deeds done, some big, the vast majority very small but this is what I think about when I think about religion.
IOW, I look at the forest and not the trees and I think if we talk long enough we'll find that you do too.
