Even if they operated at a loss, every year... we would still need them, until the day comes that there are no wars.

It's really not about economics, some things are more important than pure economics.

No country can win wars continuously that is dependant on another country for it's basic materials. Wars are won by destroying the assets of another, and the side that runs out of assets first loses. Countries that cannot replenish their assets cannot win in the long run against a country that can replenish it's assets.

It may suck, and the steel bigwigs may be 'getting over on us' money wise, (who really knows) but that's the way it has to be. We have no other choice, unless we want to take a chance and hope that the countries we end up depending on to supply us with steel never stab us in the back when we need them the most. I don''t want to take that chance.
