A prayer to counter a hellish fire..???
asianageonline.com
If the Hindutva movement had reacted with prayer rather than punishment to Godhra, there would have been a national outpouring of sympathy of unparalleled proportions. It lost that chance when it could not cleanse hatred from its reaction.

JPR's note:
Mr.M.J.Akbar should reread his history books. It is a well-documented fact: Yes, Hindus were known to have offered prayer in the temples when foreign muslims invaded the country, demolished the temples and killed the priests and the devotees in the temple premises. That did not stop the killings by the marauding muslims. They found no honor in peace and found morbid satisfaction in wanton killings and plunder. That mind-set of "kill and plunder" has trickled down to many generations of some muslim in India. It is 84 to 12 ratio between Hindus and muslims. It is worthwhile to think about it for the safety of all. That is reality. The Govt, the military and the police cannot stop the retaliation in a developing country like India, though it is absolutely wrong.
