Bombardier Recreational Products Presents the New Interactive Learning Kiosk 'Sea-Doo Guru' at the Montreal Boat Show
SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC--MARCH 12, 2002 - 14:28 EST Bombardier Recreational Products, the leading manufacturer of personal watercraft (PWC), will debut the Sea-Doo(R) Guru in Canada, a new interactive learning kiosk, at the Montreal Boat Show on March 14, 2002. The Sea-Doo Guru instructional design uses five interactive computerized modules to inform PWC users about innovative technological advancements, environmental breakthroughs and boating safety knowledge.
"Bombardier has been commended on numerous occasions by the National Transportation Safety Board, as well as the Canadian Coast Guard, for its commitment to responsible boating, with such technological advancements as the Learning Key(TM) and the Off-Power Assisted Steering system (O.P.A.S.(TM) system), that are aimed at making both novice and experienced PWC users more responsible on waterways," said Fernando Garcia, Director of Public and Regulatory Affairs.
"By incorporating entertainment, information and technology, we developed an educational kiosk that could be used to help educate current and potential PWC users about these technological advancements, as well as boating safety guidelines. This new concept allows Bombardier to enhance consumers' knowledge through experiential learning. Because the kiosk is portable, we plan to take it on tour to other boat shows and upcoming dealer venues, where boaters will be in attendance."
The Sea-Doo Guru kiosk, custom designed from a Sea-Doo PWC body and hull, is fitted with an Intel Pentium IV computer with a touch screen monitor and keyboard. The Sea-Doo Guru allows users to easily maneuver through the five PWC modules via the touch-key screens.
Module one, Boating Safety, offers users the opportunity to reinforce their boating-safety knowledge through a sample of boating-safety questions directly from the online boating-safety course offered by BoatU.S. Foundation and sea-doo.com.
In module two, Virtual O.P.A.S., users will operate a virtual PWC, both with and without the O.P.A.S. system. The system is Bombardier's innovative steering system designed to provide added maneuverability by assisting steering in off-power operations, as well as when the throttle is released.
The third module, Eco-Challenge, focuses on providing players with information about various more environmentally friendly technologies that are making a positive difference, such as emission rate reductions of up to 80% compared to older models.
Sound Off, the fourth module, compares the sound level of a Sea-Doo PWC to other everyday appliances and machines, such as a refrigerator or a motorcycle.
Module five, Innovation Showcase, outlines the latest technology and features of a Sea-Doo GTX+ 4-TEC(TM) PWC and defines what the technology offers the rider.
Following the Sea-Doo Guru's appearance at the Montreal Boat Show, the kiosk is expected to make many stops across Canada and the United States in 2002 to further promote greater awareness of today's PWC advancements, promote the importance of responsible-boating practices and test PWC users' knowledge about boating safety.
