On JLA, I did ask Jeff whether his use of the term "nancyboy" was improper, and Jeff said no, it wasn't. I didn't want him suspended, but if Jeff felt that usage was over the top, as I felt it was, I wanted it stopped. But Jeff said it wasn't a violation. So while I did bring that to Jeff's attention, that wasn't what caused his suspension.
I don't have a practice of turning people in. The only other person I have turned in is a poster who posted my wife's real name, which I have never revealed here -- it is obvious that he did some research and dug that out of other places on the web. (He's also the person who claimed he had phoned me personally.) I considered that disclosing private information and attacking my family. I didn't even turn him in when he posted highly offensive personal comments pretending to claim that my wife had left me, but revealing personal information is a clear no-no..
Although it was done by a Poet supporter as an aspect of her "defense,", I hope she had nothing to do with it personally.
As to JLA, he used some strong language, but so have all of us. I'm sorry he got suspended, but I don't know what the basis for it was. I personally prefer the administrative "knock it off, people" approach to suspensions. But I have no idea what went on between JLA and Jeff, so there may have been some warnings that JLA ignored. I think if people are told to tone it down, and don't, they deserve whatever happens. But I have no idea whether that's what happened here. I'm in the dark, and haven't heard anything from JLA about what he was told, why he was suspended, etc. |
