Dr. Andrew Viterbi, Co-Founder of QUALCOMM, Joins Flarion Board of Directors - January 23, 2001
BEDMINSTER, N.J. (January 23, 2001) - Flarion Technologies, a new company that has developed a breakthrough wireless data technology for the burgeoning mobile Internet market, today announced that Dr. Andrew (Andy) J. Viterbi has been appointed to the company's board of directors. Dr. Viterbi is the co-founder of QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), and a co-inventor of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based digital cellular technology.

After co-founding QUALCOMM in July 1985, Dr. Viterbi served as the company's chief technical officer until 1996. He continued to serve as vice chairman of the company until his retirement in 2000. Under his leadership, QUALCOMM received worldwide recognition for innovation in wireless communication systems and products based on CDMA technology. Before QUALCOMM, Dr. Viterbi co-founded Linkabit Corporation, a digital communications company. He is also the inventor of the well-known Viterbi Algorithm, a decoding algorithm used in most digital communication systems.
