Paul, Re: "Looks like MAD's 0.13 micron parts are so slow that MAD is too embarrassed to announce what speeds they will run at !!"

There are three reasons why I think AMD's .13u parts are going to amount to more than you think.

1) They will finally be shipping by the end of the month - no joke this time.

2) It creates a smaller die that will be cheaper to manufacture than Palomino.

3) They are already reporting "mature" yields on the 130nm process (and this isn't Jerry "Big Mouth" Sanders saying this, either).

Even if the processor gets minimal performance over Palomino - say, on the order of 1.8GHz to 2.0GHz, it will probably be as competitive and less expensive to make than the Pentium 4 until the end of the year when Hammer is set to launch.

If AMD executes between now and then, then they won't have fallen behind, and depending on how fast they can ramp production, they might even gain market share. I only bring this up because it's a perceivable buying opportunity. Both Intel and AMD seem dead-even right now, except AMD has some good prospects for 2003 with Hammer.

Intel might be able to maintain 80% market share this year, but AMD's ASPs are on the rise. Even staying at <20% for the rest of the year will improve revenues for AMD, not to mention if the flash market happens to improve. I'd say that investment wise, AMD might be worth looking into.
