Hi I am a writer now too. I wanted to share my magnum opus with you. Before you swoon with the beauty of my prose, I will tell you this is a practical piece, designed to be used with Judy clocks. I am going to teach my second graders about time today, and thought this might be a fun way to walk them through a review at the end of the lesson. ............................................
Once upon a time there was a pincher bug who lived in a pile of leaves. He woke up every morning at 8:30am to go to the garden to eat holes in all the tomatoes. He loved eating holes in tomatoes. His second favorite thing was eating holes in strawberries.
The pincher bug would spend 1/2 hour or 30 minutes creeping over to the garden. What time did he get there? (9:00am)
He then spent an hour eating. Munch Munch Munch What time was it when he finished eating? (10:00am)
After eating he would be so very full he would have to take a nap. He slept for 1/2 hour or 30 minutes. What time was it when he woke up? (10:30am)
When he woke up he would be hungry again. But not QUITE as hungry as he was in the morning so he would only eat for 1/4 hour or 15 minutes. What time was it when he finished his late morning snack? (10:45am)
After he ate for the second time the pincher bug would often walk around the garden and say "Hello" to the ladybugs, and the butterflies, and the ants. He did this partly because he was a sociable pincher bug, and partly to work up an appetite for lunch. Lunch was always at 12:30pm.
After lunch, of course, he needed another nap. This time he slept for a whole hour or 60 minutes! He was a very lazy pincher bug. What time was it when he woke up? (1:30pm)
After his second nap the pincher bug would creep back to his leaves and rearrange them for a while. He would often rearrange his leaves for 45 minutes or 3/4's of an hour. What time would it be if he rearranged his leaves for 45 minutes? (2:15pm)
He would often spend another 45 minutes, or 3/4's of an hour, painting his toenails. That might seem like a long time but remember he had 6 feet. And of course he was very lazy too. What time was it when the last toenail was done? (3:00pm)
It took 20 minutes for his toenails to dry. What time was it when they were dry? (3:20pm)
After painting his toenails the pincher bug would think deep thoughts about the universe, for about 5 minutes. What time was it after the pincher bug's deep thoughts? (3:25pm)
The pincher bug ate his dinner at 5:45 because pincher bugs go to bed very early. 30 minutes or 1/2 hour after dinner the pincher bug would brush his teeth. What time was that? (6:15pm) Then he went to bed an hour or 60 minutes after brushing his teeth. When did he go to bed? (7:15pm) |
