AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced that it has teamed with Compaq Computer Corporation and NVIDIA to offer a unique, high-performance graphics desktop system for mainstream PC purchasers.
Compaq Presario digital media desktop PCs featuring the AMD Athlon(TM) XP processor and NVIDIA nForce Platform Architecture with integrated GeForce2 graphics processing unit (GPU) raise the bar for overall performance in mainstream PCs. With this marriage of technologies, this system redefines the multimedia experience for the average computer user - providing eye-popping, interactive graphics, and phenomenal audio and video streaming capabilities.

Compaq Presario 8000 systems featuring the NVIDIA nForce Platform Architecture with integrated GeForce2 graphics are available with AMD Athlon XP processors 1600+ up to 2100+, with starting prices ranging from $885 to $1,299. The Compaq Presario 8000 systems are immediately available in the US direct from Compaq at www.athome.compaq.com, through a Compaq kiosk located in more than 10,000 popular retail stores and many traditional retail locations, or by calling Compaq at 1-800-888-0220. The NVIDIA nForce chipset is also expected to be available on Compaq Presario 6000 PCs featuring the AMD Athlon XP processors 1600+ and 1900+ in US retail outlets in early April.
