You have some good points, but I have read a lot about fighting in Afghanistan and other sources indicate that our troops are not suited to fighting at the high altitudes in Afghanistan. They have to carry too much equipment, while the locals just carry enough to keep them going until they get to their hidden stashes of food and equipment. Also, while the locals are staying relatively warm in their caves, our guys are suffering from frostbite. Not to mention knowledge of the terrain, which we don't have and they do.
There's probably some truth in both reports, IMO.
