Thanks for your feedback on Star Office. Since I can appears that I can load Linux and Star Office without affecting the Windows OS, I apparently have little to lose. Since I retired, I've been getting along with MS Works, which is a poor substitute for Office, and I especially miss the Excel spreadsheet portion. With the Works SS, there's no privacy protection, and much worse, it frequently "loses" large chunks of data, which I then have to reinsert from a back-up copy. I'll give the Linux and Star Office a try.
