Eeeewwww! There's that "word" again. It's disgusting. And, as I said, puerile. And I don't doubt that it was intended to offend.

Offensive language is offensive - regardless of the motive of the speaker.

You'll get no argument from me. Puerile is puerile. The distinction I was making was one of tone.

Lots of people use offensive language. Some do it simply out of habit or because they are not sufficiently articulate (or sober) to make a better choice. I don't like the language, but recognize that it comes with the territory, so I read past the language, regardless of the poster, regardless of the motivation.

I don't easily read past anger and apparent hatred, which may be demonstrated by offensive language or otherwise. I make a distinction between posters who argue issues, with our without colorful language, and those who seem to hate the people they're arguing with.

That's the distinction I make. Others may make other distinctions. That's what I had in mind by my post.
