Mexico's MegaCable to Deploy Alcatel's Optical Fiber Solutions
Paris, March 12, 2002 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA), the world leader in optical networking, today announced that Mexican CATV giant MegaCable has chosen Alcatel as its primary provider for optical fiber solutions for 2002. MegaCable is deploying Alcatel's optical fiber cables as part of ongoing plans to upgrade and expand its optical networking capabilities throughout Mexico. Alcatel has been MegaCable's primary supplier of optical fiber for over three years, and the continued deliveries to this major service provider are evidence of Alcatel's solid and growing presence in the CATV market.
The current MegaCable projects will employ Alcatel's dependable and user-friendly EZ-Prep (TM) optical cables with Standard Singlemode Fibers (SSMF). EZ-Prep (TM) is popular for its high quality and ease of use in various environments, such as aerial, buried, or duct applications. MegaCable will also benefit from the performance of Alcatel's SSMF with the unique ColorLock (TM) fiber coating system, which leads the industry in fiber strength and reliability over time.
"We are very enthusiastic about our enduring relationship with MegaCable," stated Jacques Blanc, president of Alcatel's optical fiber activities. "Given MegaCable's technological leadership and attention to quality, this ongoing commitment to Alcatel is an important expression of continued confidence in our offerings. Our dependable products and service allow Alcatel to provide a cost effective optical fiber solution that ensures the highest performance and reliability in the fast growing Mexican market."
Through ongoing intensive research and collaboration with customers, Alcatel has developed a complete portfolio of optical fiber solutions. In order to serve the diverse and evolving needs of networks, Alcatel offers multi-mode fiber, SSMF, the recently introduced enhanced SMF (E-SMF), and the advanced Non Zero-Dispersion Shifted Fibers (NZ-DSF), TeraLight (TM) Metro and TeraLight (TM) Ultra. A wide variety of cable designs and connectivity solutions enable Alcatel to supply optical networks from end to end in a variety of environments.
Notes to the editors:
About ColorLock (TM) In order to readily distinguish optical fibers from one another to facilitate splicing and troubleshooting, manufacturers color their fibers following a standard code. Alcatel's ColorLock coating is a unique innovation in the industry, wherein the color is incorporated in each fiber's secondary coating, replacing the traditional surface application of thin layers of ink. Because the fiber color is integrated into the coating, the color is brilliant, always consistent, and as durable as the fiber coating itself. The strength and mechanical performance of the colored fibers are guaranteed, now and in the future. ColorLock is available on all of Alcatel's single mode and non-zero dispersion shifted fibers.
