I personally don't think 1xEV-DO is going much of anywhere. Great technology. Limited market. No economies of scale.

I think some of this will depend on how successful the Korean roll-out is. Adding DO into the roadmap for most wireless carriers wouldnt be that big a deal (like adding EDGE into a GSM carrier's roadmap). I think both of these technologies will depend on the actual performance.

Advantages in the early going on "cost per megabit" to cdma2000, but long term to EDGE/WCDMA.

The problem is that it is going to be quite a while before EDGE/WCDMA handsets outnumber CDMA2000....and I'm one of the optimistic ones about W-CDMA.

But this mobile wireless telephony game is NOT about "cost per megabit".

You know that I agree that it is going to be about the applications.

The problem is that a year ago I thought (and Nokia indicated) that GPRS would be able to economically support these services. It seems like Nokia is now trying to shift their focus to EDGE...along with W-CDMA.
