The first thing you need to do to use your Yahoo e-mail in Outlook is make a change in your Yahoo account to enable external access to it.Do the following:
Go into Yahoo Mail and click on "Options."
Now click on the "POP Access & Forwarding" option in the middle column at the bottom.
Click on the "Yes" button in the Sign Up section.
Now here's the tricky part...where Yahoo tries to keep advertisers happy. There's a box that says something like "Only send me offers about subjects set below." If you don't check this and don't check any boxes below it, will you get spammed? Or do you have to check that box and then not select anything below? I don't know for sure, but I think I left everything unchecked, and I haven't gotten spammed yet.
Leave the HTML messages button checked, and click submit. You're now done with the Yahoo part.
Now you have to configure Outlook to go retrieve your Yahoo mail.
What's below is how to create a new account in Outlook in Version 6.0. (If you're not using 6.0, I can't guarantee that this will be the same, but it might be, or at least it should be close.)
From the main Outlook window, click on Tools and then Accounts. Then click Add and Mail.
In the "Display name" window, enter whatever name you want the recipients of your e-mail to see on your messages. (e.g your first and last name) Click Next.
Now enter your Yahoo e-mail address and click Next.
On the next screen, leave the first setting at "POP3," the default, and enter the following in the Incoming Mail Server box: pop.mail.yahoo.com
In the Outgoing Mail Server box, enter: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Click Next.
On the next screen, type in your Yahoo ID in the Account Name window (don't include the @yahoo.com), and enter your Yahoo password. Leave the "Remember Password" box checked and leave the other Secure Password box unchecked. Click Next and then Finish and then Close.
Now all that's left to do is see if it works. Click Send/Recv and see if can go out and get messages from your Yahoo account. If it can't you'll get an error. Make a note of the error, and if you can't figure out what went wrong yourself, let me know. |
