I have to say that the events of 9/11 were extraordinary and I expect (and hope) that they will never be repeated...

Not be some a pessimist, but I wouldn't get too confident. There are too many ways in which suicidal extremists can cause massive damage and deaths.

But they would have a difficult time, short of using biological weapons (such as a Spanish flu derivative), destroying this society. Even a nuclear device might destroy a city, but not the entire country.

However, it would create the impression that if they are willing to use WMD against the greatest power on earth, there is no where that is safe from them.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I don't believe we've seen the last such 9/11 event. And the quicker the American people accept that possibility and take it into account in their daily lives, the better we will be able to weather the shock when it occurs (like the English during the Blitz).

And while the growth in the population might be one aspect, the demographic breakdown implicit in that growth is what is truly frightening. Some 40% of Muslims around the world are younger than 18 years of age. That means that just under 1/2 of these kids will be looking for something to do within the next 10 years. If they don't have jobs, they'll look for someone to take care of them and give them a purpose in life. But the reality is clear that we just can't create 400-500 million new jobs for them over that time period. The US certainly can't do it alone as Raymond might have us all foolishly believe.

And while the population of the undeveloped world is growing at 3% or higher, the population of developed nations has stagnated. 25% of Japan's population will be over 60 within the next 5-10 years and the US baby boomer generation will be heading there shortly thereafter.

Folks may hate Pat Buchanan as a person, but he's locked on to the demographic reality that will set the stage for the western world being forced to defend its values against those with other, more oppressive ideas.
