Amkor Technology Inc. and Shanghai’s Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (GSMC) today said they have signed an agreement to jointly offer supply-chain products and services for customers specializing in the microelectronics market in China.
As part of the alliance, Chandler, Ariz.-based Amkor will become GSMC’s customer, with GSMC in turn providing wafer services to the packaging and test services company. Amkor will also assist GSMC with sales, marketing, planning, logistics and IT services in support of its wafer business. Additionally, Amkor will provide assembly and test services for GSMC customers at Amkor’s factory in Shanghai, China, and potentially other Amkor plants in China.
"We view this strategic alliance as an important step in the development of China’s microelectronics industry, as it brings together a key player in China’s emerging wafer foundry industry and the world’s leading provider of contract microelectronics assembly and test solutions," said Eric Larson, Amkor’s executive VP, in a statement.
Since Amkor opened its Shanghai factory last year, the company said it has seen customer interest for supply-chain services based on China-centric content. |
