NEC Computers International and Wave Systems To Demonstrate Secure Home
Computing Capabilities at CeBIT 2002 in Hannover, Germany

HANNOVER, Germany, Mar 14, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NEC Computers International
(NEC CI), a leader in Europe's home personal computer market, and Wave Systems
Corp. (NASDAQ:WAVX), a developer of next generation hardware solutions and
services for secure Internet shopping, are demonstrating secure PC capabilities
at the CeBIT 2002 trade show March 13-20 in Hannover, Germany.

Demonstrations using NEC computers and integrated Wave technologies will be held
at the NEC IT booth, Hall 2, Booth B20, during the show.

Wave Systems is the developer of the EMBASSY(R) Trust System, for secure
e-commerce and trusted digital exchange, and the EMBASSY(R) 2100 secure
e-commerce chip. EMBASSY chips may be embedded in such products as computer
keyboards, smart card readers and other computer components. When the EMBASSY
system secures a device such as a personal computer, personal information such
as credit card numbers, PIN numbers and other end user secrets are protected
from theft.

At CeBIT, Wave will demonstrate the integration of EMBASSY technology into NEC
CI's Packard Bell brand, Western Europe's number-one home PC brand in Q4 2001,
with market share of 13.7%, as well as in 2001 with a market share of 11.3%.
EMBASSY technology is embedded into a smart card reader integrated into a
Packard Bell keyboard. Similar capabilities are also demonstrated using a Wave
Systems PC keyboard. NEC CI is expected to launch a trial of EMBASSY technology
in a secure PC in the second quarter of this year in France using the Packard
Bell brand.

"Consumers will be more comfortable sharing personal information, such as
financial data, over the Internet when the network is more secure," said Detlef
Bosse - Executive Director - Desktop and Solutions - NEC Computers
International. "We believe secure or trusted computing capabilities can be a key
differential in marketing computers to consumers."

NEC CI and its high value solutions

The value of NEC CI solutions lies in their ability to combine highly sought
after technologies into an easy-to-use package. For example, in 2001, Packard
Bell unveiled the Video Dre@m Machine, the first PC in Europe to provide
round-trip video production, from downloading footage to the PC through to
distributing movies on DVD-RW. In addition to bringing cutting-edge technology
to market quickly, the Video Dre@m Machine also included a TV tuner card and
video editing, personal VCR and DVD authoring software.

This is the hallmark of Packard Bell products - each solution is an integrated
package, combining all the hardware and software needed to accomplish basic and
advanced usages.

Other examples include the Packard Bell and Disney Pack, which combined software
and hardware to deliver Disney activities for children of all ages, and the
Internet Dream Machine, which combined Internet access, software and hardware
such as a webcam to deliver a ready-to-use Internet-oriented workstation.

Secure on-line payment is the next step in this philosophy.

"Wave has demonstrated that the company is a leader in aggressively supporting
European secure E-commerce specifications and standards," said Bruno Leconte,
Wave vice president, European Operations. "Our programmable EMBASSY personal
E-commerce technology is an exceptional secure computing platform for the home
PC consumer, capable of delivering many new services in the future."
