>>Cymer boosts its earnings outlook

Cymer, the San Diego maker of specialized lasers used in semiconductor manufacturing, said yesterday that operating results for the first three months of 2002 will exceed previous estimates. Cymer now estimates that total revenue for the first quarter of 2002 will be between 8 percent and 11 percent higher than fourth-quarter 2001 revenue of $54.8 million. Cymer attributed the change to increased sales of its newest argon fluoride and krypton fluoride lasers. The company also said the average selling price of its products would reach $725,000 and its gross margin would be between 39 percent and 42 percent.
