none of those depressions had unemployment anywhere near the 25% like was seen in 1932, although i will grant you the one in the 1890's was pretty nasty and unemployment did get to 18%. that's why i said 'great depressions'. the only other major depression was in 1837, so we can really narrow it down to three significant depressions in US history. 1830's, 1890's, and the 1930's |
