Do you know the strength of the U.S. Army in 1940? 190,000 regulars.
I didn't realise that... impressive mobilisation in 1941 then. But you still probably had as much chance of outfacing Hitler in 1934-35 as Britain did. (And we were all in Depression then).

Also, in 1940 we were 1.5 years into war and 2.5 into preparation. To be fair you'd have to compare your 1940 strength with the UK in 1936 or so.

I thought Hitler had rather more faith in his own forces than to think France would win... whatever the French generals may have thought <s>

Superman was disappointingly neutral, wasn't he - especially compared to the Marvel corps, who so happily joined in <g>
