Actually, Thames, there was just one dissenting vote.

It was from Jeanette Rankin of Montana in the House of Representatives. She was an early feminist and a pacifist. She was booed loudly in the House and pilloried in the press. She said she could just not bring herself to cast a vote for war.

Because I love to read about history, I know better about that era than I know about the present one <gg> (or maybe not <gg>). If I am not mistaken, wasn't that what happened to Bush after September 11th? I think there was just one dissenting vote for the resolution he wanted, also by a Congresswoman.

I don't see that we will ever become isolationist again, or could, even if we wished. One thing that we never know is how many countries publicly disassociate from the U.S., or even speak out publicly against us, but which secretly assure us that we have their support.

Come to think of it ... Don't you think that probably happens right here on the thread when we get into one of those choosing sides tiffs?
