albert, Re: "does it make any difference that it was "Posted: 20/06/2001 at 15:51 GMT"? Not exactly the 4q, is it?"

The effect of lowering prices is never immediate. It takes at least a quarter for the effects to be absorbed by the market. Your link was from the tail end of Q2, and it said:

"We have had 80 per cent plus marketshare," he said. "We intend to stay at that level or move upward."

It is true that Intel has had 80% market share. It is also true that Intel intended to move upward, and in fact they did - eventually. Therefore, the quote, including a fact and a prediction, is *absolutely* correct.

The prices that were cut on the Pentium 4 in Q2 allowed Intel to gain market share in Q3, even though AMD dropped prices to $65 ASP. Intel's further cuts in Q3 allowed them to gain much more market share in Q4, even though AMD launched the Palomino.

And you are still trying to prove that Barrett made incorrect comments. You are also trying to prove that Intel shouldn't have lowered prices.

You are wrong on both counts, so I am still waiting for your apology.
