corel has given up linux and is backing .net and xml


Few users will pay for applications on Linux. This makes it difficult to fund an application company. Other companies like IBM and Dell who might benefit from a strong Linux community may need to find creative ways to support the infrastructure. I tend to think that only commodity applications such as file servers and mail servers will find the necessary financing.
