School vouchers: it burns me went proponents use the argument that it will allow poor kids a quality education. The fact is that the typical plan (offering $4k in vouchers) will NOT allow a non-parochial private school to operate, at least not in CA. What will happen is that families that can already afford the $10-20K tuition will get a state hand-out.

I'm not sure about other states, but I do believe that the California economy would be tramatized if all illegal immigrants left. The labor market here could simply not pick up the slack, at least not at the current wages. If wages doubled for these jobs, inflation would go through the roof. I don't know the right answer, but I believe deporting all illegals would be devastating to our economy.
