The next 90 years, the British remained the worlds most dominant military power and financial center. The fact that such a relatively small and isolated nation could maintain such dominance over the world scene for so long is amazing.

Do you think if Britain had kept protectionist laws, that it would have then been able to hold back the economic power of the United States?
