Rich Wolf, Nice analysis. Pat yourself on the back. <g> I agree with almost everything you say. The only minor difference of opinion we might have is regards the ILECs. They'll be installing a lot of frame relay gear as well as ATM stuff. And the crucial thing for them is to try like crazy to amortize the existing SONET plant that has been the key to the stabilitiy of the PSTN, but that is now obsolete, from a purely technical standpoint, but can't be abandoned, because of financing realities. Some are speculating on the death of the ILECs within the next 4 years, since they are so far from maintaining a profitable voice line based revenue stream. Voice pays seven times better than equivalent data streams. And all the growth is on the profit-poor data side. Not a pleasant prospect from the point of view of the finance guys. -R.
