The Three Faces Of Sharon<<<<

Reading Indyk's piece today reminded me of a droll face of Sharon.

Sharon was a guest at a reception in Israei given by the American Ambassador for a large visiting delegation of US House Armed Services Committee members shortly after the 1973 war.

While the guests included top Israeli military brass and political figures, Sharon was the center of attention. After all, he was the one who defied orders, knew the openings in the dunes on the east side of the Suez Canal and ultimately led his forces across the water (shades of who?) and was well on his way to Cairo when the war was halted.

The Congressmen clustered about Sharon and delegation leader Sam Stratton asked him what was the difference between "the Arab fighting man and Israeli fighting man."

Without a flicker of hesitation, Sharon replied:

"Let me tell you the difference. When an Egyptian soldier gets shot in the stomach, he just lays there and dies. When an Israeli soldier gets a cut on his finger, he yells for a medic."
