If I were grading the Bennett piece in the NY Times, I would give it a C- and that's grade inflation.. It is a melange of psychobabble, an ill-informed reading of the chronology of the last several years and, in the end, paints a curious scenario to underscore a "dark" side of Sharon. I'm surprised he didn't look for someone to suggest that Sharon set fire to cats when he was a boy.

On the other hand, Indyk, who clearly knew and knows Sharon, places him in the context of the issues facing him at various times in his tumultious career. At this moment in Israel's history he is juggling all three faces: general, statesman and politician.

They are all critical to reach what Sharon believes may--just may-- be achievable-- peace behind relatively-secure borders. At 74, he would prefer to be remembered as one of the kings of Israel, even as the guy who helped the Palestinians, despite themselves, achieve a state of their own.
