McKinley at CeBIT

ww.xbitlabs.com

A promising Intel IA-64 processor, for multi-processor workstations, production of which must officially begin in July, is already presented at the CeBIT show. McKinley CPU based systems can be found at IBM, Compaq, Fujitsu, Siemens and HP stands. The most interesting among them is the HP system, because it is based on HP’s own chipset, code-named zx1.

Zx1 supports 2 or 4 McKinley processors, AGP 4x and PCI-X buses, and offers a very flexible memory subsystem, based on DDR SDRAM. HP proclaims that zx1 will be able to reach a very high bandwidth up to 12.8 GB per sec with a low latency at the same time, available due to four dual-channel DDR SDRAM controllers. Besides, one or two memory controllers are available. Maximal memory size supported is 256 GB.

I would also like to remind that Intel itself is developing an i870 chipset for McKinley which will be officially announced in June together with the CPU release.
