Hi elmat,

I share much of your cynicism about the toothlessness of American regulators. However, I believe I'm beginning to see a change of attitude. The Department of Justice's indictment of the accounting firm Andersen is completely
unprecedented. Of course, Andersen had to be involved in about 8 scandalous and felonius engagements before Justice would act, but at least they're started.

Harvey Pitt, over at the SEC is also sounding like he's no longer able to shirk his responsibilities completely.

So, I have some faith in the system.

Not that the white collar criminals will ever pay with jail sentences to match those of the guy who steals food to put on his family's table, mind you. Ah, capitalism, it has it privileges... <g>
