funny!!! AMR is just a varaible rate vocoder, which is what Qualcomm has had since 1990. I guess Rod Nelson finally bought a textbook on vocoders and now is persuing his "new idea".

NOTE: Variable rate vocoding is well covered by Qualcomm patents. that will take some careful walking by AT&T not to step on them.

One more thing. Why would AT&T and the GSM crowd spend all this money on the OLD legacy technology now when they have (as they have claimed and spent alot of press money on) WCDMA working right now and EDGE is also up and running system wide. Seems like they would be spending alot of unneeded development money on something which will be shortly obsolete.

Or is it possible that all teh WCDMA stuff and EDGE stuff was just HYPE?.....AT&T....Naw never...
