My 2 cents WRT HP: A couple of years ago I bought the top of the line computer with too much of everything hoping it would last awhile before I filled it up. Everything in the machine is proprietary. That means that when the hard drive simply dies after 6 months for no reason, you have to buy an HP drive. When it happens a second time 7 months later, same thing. When you call their help line, it's $25.00 per half hour and you have to babysit these kids while they work their way through the script. When they come to the end of their script and haven't found a solution, that's the end of the movie. There's no higher-up to help. The script only goes so far.

When you point out to them that THEIR printer and THEIR scanner have conflicting IRQs on this particular machine, it is beyond their ability to figure out a solution. Their advice: go buy a different scanner or printer.

I've said it before here but it bears repeating: I will NEVER again buy an HP product.

And now for the stories about my Compaq laptop....oh nevermind. It's pretty much the same thing only different.

Maybe if these 2 lovely companies get together, they'll implode and I won't have anything to rant about anymore.
