One thing that is undeniable is that the participation in media by Jews is way out of proportion compared to general population (my WAG, I live in New York). My guess is that Gottfried tried to say that the coverage on Mid-East issues is slanted in favor of Israel because of the disproportional participation of Jewish people in media. (with which I disagree)

Joe, I took what Gottfried said as a slam against not only Jews but Americans in general. First of all, there is a lot of major media outside of NYC where Jews do not predominate. Secondly, Jews only make up 6% of our population so it can be inferred by Gottfried's comments that Jews must have to use their great wealth [another myth] in conjunction with their media employment to control the media here. My God we have tons of media outlets......to think that one group could control/influence them all is absurd

But what really rubs my butt the wrong way is the slur against Americans; that we are so out of it, so unaware of what goes on outside our own backyard, that a minority of 6% can manipulate us into believing something that is not true.

I don't think Gottfried intended to slur in this fashion......I think he was genuinely surprised by the reaction on this thread. I think he is like many people who hear so often certain statements like Jews have all the money in this country that over time they believe them and treat them as if they are truth. Since no one usually objects, there is no reason to think otherwise. However, many of those statements prove to be very untrue.

And in fact, this thread has been so preoccuppied by the Jewish issue that you missed the second slam. We are an advanced country......we may be insular and we may not be on top of our game in terms of world events like some Europeans but we are not naive or uninformed. May be that was true of 1950's America but its not true of America today. Its a European bias that may have a little truth to it but only a little.

Just thought you'd like to hear my opinion. ;~))

Now have a nice day!
