In such a scenerio, why worry just about your legal guns? Couldn't that sheriff reach in a take your wallet? I suspect that the reason that the sheriff thought he could get away with it was that the kids weren't going to say anything. I would think that if a law officer reached into your car and stole something valuable, you would report him, wouldn't you? Kind of a weak example. If that convoluted possibility is preventing you from supporting laws that would protect our citizens, it sounds like a poor tradeoff. I do agree about the long airport lines being a false security. Stood in line for 4 hours coming home from Vegas a couple of weeks after 9/11. I thought, at least they must be doing a thorough search. But when we got there, they were only checking drivers licenses. Pitiful.
