Presuming that the deputy was performing a lawful duty, I would let him have the gun and complain later. Firearms are tricky, and I don't carry one unless I'm hunting or hiking. Law enforcement people are naturally skittish about them. The law enforcement training I've had, which is minimal, taught me to suspect that everybody has a weapon and try to position myself between the weapon and the person. In the training scenarios, campers and others had firearms in their camp. To me, that was a perfectly normal situation and I thought nothing of it while I interviewed the mock campers. I got killed three times. Somebody who completely internalized that kind of training could be very dangerous, and I don't like it.

Sorry you didn't like my example. It's the only search and seize experience I've had. ALL my experiences with firearms are positive and I wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China.
