At the physical layer, flash-OFDM is a frequency-hopped version of OFDM. Fast hopping turns flash-OFDM into a spread spectrum technology that enables average interference between cells (rather than worst case) and frequency re-use of one – achieving the same benefits as CDMA. At the same time, flash-OFDM has no in-cell interference (same as a TDMA system), making the overall system superior since it combines the most significant advantages of both its predecessors.
