It was very difficult to get my head around the idea of saying, "I'm a Republican."

When I said that rightie hawks were more familiar, I just meant that hawks are generally associated with the right and they seem to fit more naturally there. A leftie hawk is a bit harder to wrap my head around.

My family has always been Republican. Whenever I call my Dad, his instinct is to jump right in with a rant about Clinton. He would start most conversations with "What the hell are you guys doing in Washington?" I've finally disabused him of that practice. He's too cheap to call me so if he wants to talk, he has to restrain himself. He's a lovely man, other than his tedious partisanship.

I simply can't imagine myself identifying myself with either party. I've spent too much time watching them both from the bureaucracy and seeing how much they are alike, and it ain't pretty. Nor can I see myself in bed with the air-heads and victims and bleeding hearts who make their home in the Democratic Party. Or in bed with the mean-spirited, thick-as-a-brick, sanctimonious proles who reside in the GOP. I'd rather be in bed with hawks.
