It's not that simple. They have no way of identifying who is who with certainty, because people are fighting biometrics. Anyone can put an airline uniform on.

Suppose it was a person dressed as a baggage handler, and the same thing happened, and he said.."Don't be silly, I can put a bomb in there if I wanted to".

Once he was determined to be who he was, they should have just dropped the whole matter, and forgot about it, but the initial stoppage..until they start using biometrics to match employees to approved entry cards, then I don't care if they search airline employees also.
