Good article, although it is not that new. It has been known for a long time that the UK and Canada provided the only troops with training comparable to those from the States, for example, and they are much more poorly equipped. One reason we were intent upon stopping the Warsaw Pact in Germany was the fear that we could not depend upon conscripts from most NATO countries, and therefore a long, diffuse war would be lost. The situation in the Balkans is instructive: the allies basically begged us to take care of Kosovo, and we are still in Bosnia several years after we were supposed to leave......
