That is precisely the point. The market is open for an advanced OS to come in and take the world by storm, much as the Japanese caught Detroit with their pants down.

In fact, the Alo97 MexOS is already out. Is called "Java language, VM and toolkit". Would it be good enough? I don't know, but Java is certainly benefiting from the dismal state of operating systems.
