maybe it's just because she put food on the table for so long for me... and then gave me the ride of my life.

little tidbit of history for me really. back in the first week of January of 2001, when NT was about to announce 1500 (gasp!) layoffs, my group of 120 was one of the very first 500 people to be let go.

45000 employees later, i find it hard to believe how it all turned out. They trained me up for years, paid me and treated me very well... essentially made me a valuable commodity, and then cut me loose into a market that was starving for my skill set.

Had they done this 6 months later, i would have been in big trouble. Instead, I found myself interviewing prospective employers... i think there were maybe three interviews in which i actually answered questions. Crazy times. Could not have worked out better.

I actually took off one month, not answering or returning calls. Instead, I was getting paid to snowboard every day.

It's hard to not have the attachment to the stock. felt like an unrestricted free agent that just had a career season.

But then the reality check kicks in... once my employee stock plan was sold off, for a fraction of the price that it was mostly purchased.. there is little that I can do but laugh at my "free" options at exercisable @ $102. :o(

Back to schmuckdom i am. But man it was fun.
